History of Oklahoma County Coalition   In 1994, the Oklahoma County Immunization Coalition emerged as a group of volunteers concerned with protecting children and adults from unnecssary disease and illness by raising immunization levels of people of all ages.  This group of concerned volunteers consisted of doctors, nurses, public health personnel and service providers.  The Coalition was a group of approximately 30 such members and was led by an Advisory Committee. In 1997, Coalition members agreed that to further  efforts, a board should be identified, the Coalition should be incorporated, and by-laws adopted.  At the same time the Coalition began the process of obtaining 501© 3 status.  On June 25, 1997, the Advisory Committee held the first annual Strategy and Planning Session. In July of 1998, the Oklahoma County Immunization Coalition was granted 501©3 status. On March 3, 2004, Coalition bylaws were amended to hire an Executive Director to manage the Coalition for 20 hours a week with funding from the CDC. The Coalition to present continues to be managed by the Coalition Director under the direction of the OCIC Board of Directors.
